Country music legend Dolly Parton will be honored with the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy.

Parton is one of the five philanthropists that the international family of Carnegie institutions named as winners of the 2022 Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy in recognition of their extraordinary contributions toward addressing the challenges facing the world.

The other recipients are Manu Chandaria of The Chandaria Foundation, Kenya; Lyda Hill of Lyda Hill Philanthropies; and Lynn Schusterman and Stacy Schusterman of Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies.

The Carnegie institutions selected World Central Kitchen, an organization for mobilizing volunteers to provide meals in communities affected by humanitarian and natural disasters, for the special Carnegie Catalyst Award.

Parton receives the medal “For alleviating poverty, strengthening early childhood education through the distribution of free books worldwide, increasing college access, and advancing medical research, including on paediatric infectious diseases and the development of a COVID-19 vaccine,” the Carnegie institutions said.

Parton founded the Dollywood Foundation in 1988 to inspire the children of Sevier County, Tennessee, where she was born and raised.

The 2022 honorees will receive their medals in a private ceremony in New York on October 13.
